Custom Made
Bespoke sterilization systems for public and private use
Thanks to BMM Weston’s extensive sterilizer industry experience and comprehensive manufacturing and technical capabilities we are able to design equipment for almost all requirements.
In a recent project BMM Weston designed and built a unit for use in the production process of PZ Cussons talcum powders, described below.
If you are planning a special project and require a sterilization unit for a non-standard purpose please contact us for a quotation.
Case study
PZ Cussons, Talcum powder sterilizers
Situation
In 2006 PZ Cussons sent out a specification for a sterilization unit capable of processing 56 x 25kg sacks of talcum powder at a time.
The machines needed to be capable of a processing cycle of 1hr 45mins or less whilst eradicating all of the following species:
- Aerobic Plate Count
- Staphylococcus Aureus
- Psedomonus Aeruginosa
- Yeasts
- Moulds
- Candida Albicans
- Clostridum species
In addition, the sterilizer needed to leave the talc with a maximum post-sterilization moisture content of 0.6% w/w and be designed with a filter as such to cope with the periodical spillage of talc in the chamber.
The sacks of talc needed to be loaded onto a bespoke stackable trolley system to fit in with the current processing layout at site
Key requirements:
- 225 ft³ capacity, double-ended sterilizer
- Bespoke stackable loading system
- Special chamber filtration sections
- Stainless steel chamber
- Copper pipework
Upon completion and installation of the equipment staff on site needed to be given full training.
Solution
Upon considering the specification requirements and liaison with the PZ purchasing executive BMM Weston sumbitted a quotation for the supply, installation and commissioning of the following machine.
1 x BMM Weston (236) 225 ft³ sterilizer
- Double-ended
- Pit mounted
- Microprocessor controlled
- Pressurised door seal system
- Horizontal sliding doors
Cycles:
- 134°C Talcum powder
- Leak rate cycle
Loading equipment:
- 2 loading bases
- 18 static shelves
Special filter assembly
The offer included 7 days on site for BMM Weston to commission the units and provide training for all relevant staff. Within one month of submitting the final quotation BMM Weston received the official order and work began on the manufacture of the machines. As the machine was to be installed by a third party pipework was clearly labelled prior to dispatch to make installation as easy as possible.
Results
Since commissioning and training the machine has been operated daily and a fundamental part of the talcum powder manufacturing process.
